Christianity does not exist in this universe
The city of New Rome faces a duel between Cesare Catilina, a brilliant artist who advocates for a utopian future, and the greedy mayor Franklin Cicero. Between them is Julia Cicero, whose loyalty is divided between her father and her beloved. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay in the early 1980s, but the film was shelved in part due to his financial debts. Pre-production finally began in 2001 after 30 hours of second unit filming and table readings with Paul Newman, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Edie Falco and Kevin Spacey, but the project was scrapped after attacks on 9/11, because the scene from the script (page 166) is "predicted" attacks. Coppola abandoned the project entirely in 2007 and did not begin developing it again until 2019. At 21:40, Catiline’s character utters the phrase "Holy Jesus Christ!" in wonder. However, within the universe, the city of New Rome emerges from a culture based on Roman mythology (example: 54:47, dedication to Vesta; 01:55:51, someone says "Crone’s will", or at 01:56:49, a statue of Saturn highlighted is in a prominent place, while there are many more depictions of Roman deities). There is no reason for Catiline to use the phrase "Holy Jesus Christ!" and in such a context.. Cesar Catilina: *You* want to help me?
Julia Cicero: Yes
And, well, I… well, I want to learn. Cesar Catilina: And you think one year of… medical school entitles you to plow through the riches of my Emersonian mind? Julia Cicero: Gives me the right? Caesar Catilina: Yes. Julius Cicero: [scoffs] Gives me the right? Caesar Catilina: Yes! Julius Cicero: I give the truth?
Caesar Catilina: YEEEEEE!
Julius Cicero: You have no idea about me! You think I’m nothing, just company? Cesar Catilina: No, nothing, but I reserve my time for people who can think. About science. And literature, and… architecture and art. Do you find me cruel, selfish and insensitive? I am. I work regardless of what will happen to either of us.
Julia Cicero: Good!

I respect the hell out of Coppola for that. The guy is a cinematic legend who just decided to throw all caution (and coherence) to the wind and go completely mad scientist on this one. It’s a glorious, unfiltered mess from the mind of a genius who has clearly stopped caring what anyone thinks. 👏🏻.
